Many of us have purchased a laptop few years back and these gadgets pretty much become outdated with new technologies invented every now and then.  As time goes by, the information we need to store in our laptop also increases thus in one way or another we need to get a laptop with an external hard disk to use for backup. 






Choosing the right external hard disk for laptop is very important for many reasons.  Aside from picking the cheap hard drive, we must consider the capacity of the external hard disk, its cache memory, and the type of interface and adaptors available to the external hard disk.

The market offers many choices when it comes to the prices of laptop with external hard disks.  This all depends upon one’s needs and preference.  According to reviews, portable drives from Western Digital, one of the leading makers of external hard disks for laptops, is the top in quality in terms of speed and performance.  The prices differ from the drive’s capacity and speed, but we need to keep in mind that in choosing an external hard drive for a laptop we should look beyond the price but look at its compatibility to the laptop we’re using. We need to choose an external hard drive which is fast enough to copy data for storage and data backup without the inconvenience of latency. Another important thing to consider in choosing a laptop with an external hard disk is that it has to have the ability to protect and compliment the internal hard drive as well to prevent the system from crashing.

Another thing to consider in buying a laptop external with a hard disk is its speed, there are two known different speed options when buying an external hard disk that can be used to connect to a laptop, first is the high speed memory or the size of the hard drive’s cache. Increasing the memory of a computer will increase its performance while adding extra memory in an external hard drive will totally increase the performance of that drive, this way the amount of cache in the drive will increase and the drive will be able to copy files from a laptop computer to the drive itself faster.

The second option to consider is the availability of the Firewire interface, this is a special type of interface and adaptors which are available to the external hard drive. Its main function is to provide a quicker way of copying files compared to a normal USB 2.0 interface therefore making it easier and faster for us to work in our laptops. Although this is not known as one of the cheap hard drives available today, it is still considerably useful in terms of increasing the memory and files our laptops could hold,
