List of hard drive back up solutions!
Computers are more commonly already equipped with a sufficient backup device hardware- a DVD writer drive utility. Capable of writing up to 8.5 GB, these DVD discs are often an easy and inexpensive means of archiving data on a computer. Although limited in capacity compared to an external hard drive, these discs are usually enough to create back up data for most people. With prices as low as $10 for 5 discs, DVD writable discs are certainly a valid solution for some people. An important issue with DVD writable discs, however, is that some discs have been known to degrade with time. As such, it is normally not recommended to store large amounts of data on these discs for an extended period of time.
External flash drives are yet another recent breakthrough in removable storage technology, allowing large amounts of data (up to 4GB) to be written to these removable drives. With the size of these drives as small as two square inches, these drives can easily be inserted into a pocket. These types of drives are perfect tools for professionals on the go, or college students because of their small size. Often, many people prefer to keep their primary files on this type of drive, and later back up their complete files to another drive to avoid failure. Although these drives may seem small and breakable, they are typically rated to accept in excess of 8 Gs of shock (8 times the force of gravity). Some external flash drives also provide encryption software on the drive, enabling secure file access.
These are just a few of the more common hard disk backup technologies and services in the market today. Although many more backup technologies for computer systems exist, these three main devices will protect data for many more years to come.
