Not only an external hard drive is important, it is also convenient and easy to use as it can be portable
For example, there was an instance when I was hit by a worm virus. In just a split of a second, the worm virus infected the network of computers. Perhaps it was one of those days when my antivirus system missed an update. It was also one of those days when I had to consider reformatting the hard drives. If I didn’t back up my important files and folders through an external disk drive I would have lost not just my own important files but also that of my customers’. That would have been a disaster.
One important component of a computer is its hard drive; this component holds data and is basically the main storage for the computer’s operating system. As you gradually use your computer the important files that you need to save also increases which would somehow pose a problem for you and your computer. This will lead to a system overload and will cause your computer to crash, and on top of this you will need to delete some of the important files that you saved to accommodate the new data you are trying to get. As different threats, needs, and circumstances have arisen computer systems have systematically evolved as well to provide us with useful alternatives in preventing these types problem, thus comes the use of external backup drives and the USB portable hard drive.
The main function of an external hard drive is to provide additional backup space for our computers. As the files and data that we need to save increases the need to have an additional storage space becomes important to prevent important data loss and computer crash. The external hard drive is located outside the main computer tower and has its own case or enclosure. The case is usually larger than the hard drive and has a fan to prevent over heating. A high-speed interface cable connects the external hard drive to the computer and this allows the external hard disk drive to correspond with the computer so that data may be transferred back and forth. The USB portable hard drive and Firewire are two of the most common types of external backup drives.
A USB portable external hard drive is a useful piece of component as it allows you to store important information or have a back up of your important data separate from the main internal hard drive which is prone to damage by offline and mostly online activities. Important data or files such as your music files, movies, pictures, office documents, and even a backup of the files for your main internal hard drive can all be securely stored on a USB portable hard drive as long as it has enough space for it. The USB portable hard drive and external backup drives can also be protected from data damage or corruption from viruses online as it can be turned off or removed from the computer as you go online.
Storing computer data in a USB portable hard drive can be done in a snap since most USB portable hard drives now have plug-and-play technology. Examples of the USB portable hard drives are the ultra-portable POCKETEC DataStor and InSight™ USB Portable Hard Drive. The convenience of using all these portable hard drives is that they do not need a power adaptor since their power can be drawn through the USB port. The POCKETEC DataStor is compatible with PC, Mac and Linux as well as all desktops and laptops and this is what made this device a marketable one. Moreover, the InSight™ USB Portable Hard Drive has an LCD which displays and tells you if you are connected or dismounted from your PC or Mac. It also has a 2.0 USB cable which allows transfer of data at a very high speed. In the USB era, we now have USB portable hard drives with USB 3.0 technology commonly called the “Superspeed USB” which transfer speed capability is impeccable.
