Each type of backup has its own requirement or the amount of time may vary and it will depend on what kind of medium will be used to perform the backup process.  Sometimes, you will need a computer backup program to ease the execution of the backup.

Full Backup

This means that everything on the computer, from operating system, applications, settings, files, data are all copied to a backup device or other medium of storage. This might be time-consuming and would perhaps require a large amount of space for the backup device to accommodate the entire system. Of course, the time to backup would depend on the amount of information stored on the computer.

Incremental Backup

This is a kind of backup that only copies the file that had recently changed since the time it the backups was last performed. The backup medium size will certainly depend on how much data had changed as well.

Differential Backup

This will only make a backup of the files that have been changed but it will keep all the changes since the last full backup of the system. The capacity storage of the backup medium might be large enough as the changed will gradually increase as the amount backup is added up.

Selective Backup

As the term applies, it will only make a backup copy on the selected files or folders of the computer.

What will you backup?
