januari 13, 2007 20:26 - AT&T Focuses on Home and SMB Market for Online Storage Solution

Backing away from their enterprise level solutions, AT&T is now offering services for home and small business users. Prices start at 2GB of space for 5.95USD per month. The new "Online Vault" system does an initial backup of the user's system, afterwards only backing up files that have changed.

New files are compressed, encrypted, and transmitted on a daily basis to AT&T's secure data center. Backups can be made to any computer that the consumer desires. Aimed mainly at small businesses for slightly more money, the "Remote Vault" option allows for more flexible backups, including hourly, weekly, or other periods.

januari 30, 2007 21:29 - Data Backup Buyer's Guide Released by Dealhack

Considering the many options and details to know when dealing with data backup and storage, a consumer advice site www.dealhack.com has published a guide to the different solutions. The basic strategy that Dealhack.com suggests is to stick to something simple, automate, and backup on a regular basis.

A little more detail about the five rules: 1. Prioritize your files - know what is irreplaceable. 2. Cut unnecessary files and programs - what can easily be installed again? 3. Make it regular - a minimum of once a week and probably once a day. 4. Research the backup options available to you. 5. Pick an appropriate medium i.e. CDs, tape, external hard drives, flash drives, etc.
