november 21, 2006 19:57 - Small Business Data Survey Reveals Vulnerability

A recent industry survey (done by Verio, Inc.) discovered that small to medium sized business owners were leaving their data in an unprotected state. Up to 45 percent of small businesses reported that they did not have a data recovery plan and a percentage of those who did, were still susceptible to data loss.

Since small businesses rely more and more on their connection to the internet and other internal networks, data corruption and viruses could wreak havoc on sensitive information. However, small business owners are starting to understand the potential danger of data loss and are starting to take precautionary measures.

november 26, 2006 17:48 - Signiant Releases New Remote Storage Solutions for Remote Offices

In response to new products released this year by Symantec and Avamar Technologies, Signiant has released its Mobilize for Remote Data Protection solution. As more companies realize that some of their critical data is stored at remote office locations and not the central office, they are concerned about losing the remote data.

Tape drive systems run by non-IT professionals are the norm at these remote locations. Signiant's product removes a lot of human error from the equation by doing away with tape drives completely and implementing an offsite disk based storage scheme. While the disk storage solution is more convenient, tape backup is, by far, the cheapest solution.
