- Symantec announces the introduction of Remote Data Backup
Software
Symantec
is launching a backup software product which avoids the problems that
usually are associated with tape backups.
The
product which is targeting corporate customer is called NetBackup
PureDisk Remote Office Edition 6.0. It is especially beneficial for
remote office installations. The technologies is derived from
DataCenter Technologies a previous Belgian company which was acquired
by Symantec in April 2005
It is estimated that about 35% of
enterprise data is located at remote locations and the amount of data
is on average increased by 50% each year.
The
software is managed through a web interface which allows different
access and rules to be set for different users. Data is transferred
over the Internet to other locations and is encoded with 252-bit
encryptions.
Often
non it personnel can be made responsible for taking tape backups in an
organization.
